Faster, smarter, and more connected

On 3 April 2025, we presented the 9th iteration of EduXS, exactly one month after the platform went live. With no issues or outages reported, and positive feedback from early users, the focus now shifts from basic stability to performance and data quality.

Improving data quality

While functionality is well ahead of schedule, the current dataset is still sparse. To address this, the steering committee gave the green light to appoint a dedicated data manager. This role will focus on increasing both the quantity and quality of the content, with targeted efforts per focus area. It marks an important step in turning EduXS into a truly representative map of the European educational technology landscape.

Backend upgrades

Jan shared several backend improvements:

  • API speed has been significantly improved by skipping heavy, unused calls.
  • Monitoring of the site and background processes is now handled via Beepr, including instant alerts.
  • Errors in the synchronisation between Baserow and EduXS were fixed.
  • Full-text search based on PostgreSQL is now live, improving usability.
  • A new partial synchronisation process ensures only updated records are pushed from Baserow to EduXS, saving time and server load.

Frontend enhancements

Robbert demonstrated major improvements to the relationship view:

  • The new version is faster and allows users to customise and persist their view, including sharing it via URL or QR-code.
  • Users can now edit an existing shared view, with changes reflected instantly via the original link.
  • The comparison view now offers a smoother transition to relationship view, even with multiple “root entities” open side by side.
  • Minor mobile issues have been resolved, and sorting in detail pages is now consistent.

Engaged audience, valuable input

This demo also included live input from participants, including Clement Loret (IT manager at CIVICA) and Patrik Maltusch (Enterprise Architect, Aalto University Finland). They discussed the usability of the tool and how it could support comparison across alliances and institutions.

“Thank you for the great job you're doing to help us navigate among the jungle of European projects and tools!”Clement Loret, IT manager van CIVICA, the European University of Social Sciences

As always, we welcome ideas and feedback, even if we can’t implement everything right away. If we don’t know about it, we can’t improve it!

The presented new features will be deployed to production on Monday, 7 April 2025. Keep an eye on the site and feel free to explore, share and suggest.

See you at the next demo on 1 May
