About

We believe that cross-border innovation in education is essential for building an effective economy, fostering a robust democracy, and strengthening social cohesion across Europe.

EduXS is a centralised online platform and database that connects the European digital education ecosystem by providing up-to-date information on standards, documents, services, and organisations.

Designed for education leaders, EdTech providers, standardisation experts, and policymakers, EduXS helps stakeholders align efforts, share resources, and avoid duplication.

By fostering collaboration and preventing the development of isolated systems, EduXS enhances interoperability and drives innovation, contributing to a unified digital education landscape.

Goals

  • To simplify the process of finding like-minded projects, organisations, and standards to facilitate collaboration and innovation.
  • To become the primary reference point for stakeholders in the European digital education ecosystem, providing comprehensive and accessible information on standards, documents, services, and organisations.
  • Encourage organisations and collaborations to actively contribute their developments and results to EduXS, ensuring a continuously growing and shared resource.

Governance

The governance structure of EduXS contributes to our mission: promoting interoperability in the European education landscape. Using a collaborative model based on The Commons Conservancy, we ensure transparency and efficiency. This lightweight governance framework is commonly used for community-based services, open-source projects, and other related initiatives. Additionally, NLnet will provide the financial infrastructure required for the smooth operation of EduXS in the near future.

To facilitate this process, Commons Caretakers, a not-for-profit company and a 100% subsidiary of NLnet, plays a vital role. It supports the Programmes of The Commons Conservancy by enabling the issuance of invoices and the receipt of various forms of financial support from organizations.

The governance structure is centred around three key pillars: the Expert Group, the Advisory Board, and the Board of Directors. A compact support organisation provides assistance to the members of these bodies.

Expert Group

The Expert Group at EduXS brings together specialists with expertise in standardisation and architectural development in education. This group plays a crucial role in the practical development and application of EduXS by:
Providing high-quality, validated data on interoperability: Focusing on specific topics relevant to the organisation of digital education in Europe, with data continuously updated to reflect changes and innovations.
Sharing knowledge and application: Formulating practical recommendations for the use of EduXS through various use cases.
Collecting feedback: Incorporating user experiences to continuously improve the functionality and relevance of EduXS.

With their practical expertise, the Expert Group forms the content-driven core of EduXS.

Advisory Board

The Advisory Board at EduXS is an independent body focusing on strategic connections and valuable insights for the further development of EduXS. This diverse group of experts focuses on:
Identifying and engaging target audiences: Supporting the mapping and engagement of relevant target groups for EduXS.
Collaborative partners: Identifying and connecting with organisations focused on interoperability in the European context.
Advice on functionality and data: Contributing to the development of the tool’s functionality and the use of data, based on the needs and wishes of the target groups.

With their expertise and network, the Advisory Board contributes to the growth of EduXS and provides a solid foundation for its future.

Board of Directors

The EduXS Board plays a strategic and supervisory role, initially serving as a Founding Board to ensure the continuity in EduXS's development. With current funding from Npuls coming to an end, the Board's top priority is to establish a sustainable funding strategy.

The Board focuses on the following areas:
Defining the strategic direction: Setting the vision and course for EduXS’s long-term goals.
Safeguarding financial integrity: Overseeing a solid financial foundation and developing a robust funding strategy.
Guiding decision-making processes: Steering strategic decisions that align with EduXS’s objectives.
Promoting ethical leadership: Inspiring and guiding stakeholders to act according to high ethical standards, fostering a culture of transparency and integrity.

As a supervisory body the Board provides direction, ensures adherence to EduXS’s core values, and focuses on sustainable growth and scaling.

Supporting Team

A compact support organisation assists the members of the aforementioned bodies and contributes to the development and management of EduXS. The support is structured as follows:
Secretarial role: Supporting the Board of Directors, the Advisory Board, and the Expert Group in their work.
Product owner role: Focusing on the development and maintenance of the EduXS tool.
Data quality support: Ensuring the quality of data within the platform.

Where possible, this support is organised within the community. During the transition to a European community, SURF will provide the support organisation.
