Delivering the Final Steps for MVP1
On December 12, 2024, the EduXS team presented the fifth iteration of the project, showcasing significant progress towards the Minimum Viable Product (MVP1). This version of EduXS aims to provide comprehensive functionality, offering a working product for users while leaving room for further development in MVP2 and beyond. Below, we summarise the key developments presented during the demo.
EduXS Goals
Evelien kicked off the demo by revisiting the overarching goals of EduXS. The project aims to create a European tool that accelerates collaboration and drives innovation within the education ecosystem. By offering a continuously updated overview of standards, technologies, and organisations, EduXS addresses fragmentation and fosters interoperability between educational institutions, sectors, and initiatives. This not only supports current developments but also helps align efforts across Europe to build a cohesive and future-ready education landscape.
Backend Improvements
Jan detailed several critical backend updates:
- Batch Cleanup Jobs: Automating cleanup processes to optimise data management.
- Migration to Managed PostgreSQL: Improved performance and maintenance by leveraging SURF’s development platform.
- Content Synchronisation: Setting up jobs to synchronise data from Baserow to PostgreSQL, with deployment planned for early 2025.
- Optimized API: The frontend can now request multiple data entities with a single request/response to reduce the number of roundtrips to one.
- Grafana Logging: New logging dashboards provide insights into system performance and compliance.
Frontend Enhancements
Robbert presented the updates focused on improving the user experience:
- Feedback Integration: Users can now submit feedback directly via a linked form.
- Improved Navigation: Sticky navigation bars and optimised filters enhance usability.
- Quick Access to Topics: Shortcuts on the homepage provide direct links to key areas.
- Single Query: Use the new API to get all data to display in a single request.
- Enhanced Compare View: Improved scrolling and display features make comparisons more user-friendly.
- Streamlined Details: Icons and filtering shortcuts improve consistency across pages.
Looking Ahead
The team is gearing up for 2025, with development for MVP2 starting on January 9. Upcoming efforts include preparing the platform for presentations at international conferences, integrating feedback by the Expert Group, manage data quality, and enhancing the visual appeal of overviews with logos and additional features.
